SYNTECS
SYNTECS unites industry leaders and research organizations to revolutionize surface treatments by developing sustainable, digital laser texturing methods for complex, multifunctional surfaces.
The project focuses on creating a machine platform (TRL6) that integrates Direct Laser Writing (DLW), Direct Laser Interference Patterning (DLIP), and Laser-Induced Periodic Surface Structuring (LIPSS). This platform features a multi-axis motion stage and an inline monitoring system, facilitating the efficient production of hierarchical surface textures.
SYNTECS will validate these advanced textures through three industrial case studies: an injection moulding tool, a hip implant system, and a complex-shaped vapor chamber. The project employs a Design for Surface Engineering software module that incorporates life cycle assessment guidance and predictive performance modelling, promoting sustainable decision-making.
By replacing multiple energy- and resource-intensive surface treatment steps with a single, digitally controlled, chemical- and waste-free process, SYNTECS aims to demonstrate an efficient and flexible pathway to hierarchical laser surface texturing.
