The maritime industry is striving to transition to sustainable, all-electric vessels but faces challenges such as low energy density in current battery systems, safety concerns, and the need for durable, eco-friendly materials.

To address these issues, the eWAVE project aims to advance high-voltage (HV) technology for battery-powered vessels with objectives of developing high-energy-density batteries with high-nickel content, scalable modular systems, and an integrated safety concept to enhance the sustainability, safety, and efficiency of maritime transport. The project also explores circularity through bio-based materials and recycling by supporting the EU’s goal of reducing the environmental footprint of shipping. Within the Project, Farplas contributes with its expertise in composite materials and lightweight solutions to convert traditional metal-based battery housings into composite with using recycled materials and ensuring safety, sustainability, and efficiency

By overcoming existing obstacles, eWAVE seeks to demonstrate efficient and flexible HV solutions for sustainable maritime and inland vessels, paving the way for future adoption in the European shipbuilding sector.
